Oshiomhole had recently mocked the Obasekis childless condition and suggested that their decision not to adopt showed a lack of love for children.

His comment came in response to a statement by Betsy Obaseki, who had reportedly criticized Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Edo, for not having a wife.

 

In a viral video, Oshiomhole expressed his surprise at Mrs. Obaseki’s remarks.

He said, “I was shocked yesterday to see Mrs. Obaseki, the first lady, saying that our candidate has no wife.

“She is the most, I’m sorry that she has to say that, because here is a woman who has no child. Between him and Obaseki, they have no child, they are childless,” Oshiomhole added.

However, Mrs. Obaseki while addressing the issue during a Zoom meeting with Edo women in the diaspora opened up about her struggles with conception and pregnancy.

 

She clarified that she is not barren and that she had conceived multiple times but had endured miscarriages, stillbirths, and the loss of babies during pregnancy.

Mrs. Obaseki encouraged other women going through similar struggles not to see themselves as barren but as “fruitful, potential, and proud mothers of children who will come in God’s time.”

According to her, being fruitful is not only about childbearing but also about positively impacting lives and contributing to societal progress.

“Enjoy the life God has given you. Take your mind off your challenge, and before you know it, children will start coming,” she advised.

“My contributions to society have gone beyond the biological aspect of motherhood. Being fruitful is not limited to childbearing. It is about impacting lives and creating positive change in society.”
