Last Tuesday, both the Senate and the House of Representatives adjourned their sessions to give members time to secure visas and avoid expected protests.

Several lawmakers, speaking anonymously to Daily Sun, voiced concerns that they could be targeted if the protests occur as planned.

They recalled the 2020 protests, during which many were attacked and their properties vandalized.

A senator told Daily Sun that while ministers, governors, and presidential aides are usually protected by security, lawmakers often do not have similar safeguards.

“As legislators, we are easily accessible to the public, which poses a significant risk to our safety during major uprisings,” the senator explained.

Another lawmaker said, “As I am talking to you, I have secured my ticket and I am leaving Abuja by the weekend.”
