Hoodlums attacked journalists, critically injuring Nigerian Tribune reporter Joseph Abasi-Abasi, and vandalized an 18-seater bus belonging to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

The attack occurred around 10 a.m. as the NUJ bus, which was transporting food items from the State Emergency Management Agency warehouse to the Ernest Etim Press Centre, was targeted.

The hoodlums also assaulted the bus driver, Joseph Akpaenin, and NUJ auxiliary staff member, Saviour Ekpenyong.

According to Daily Post, the driver was left with significant injuries, including a battered shoulder and face, and his phone was stolen.

The assailants succeeded in stealing some of the food items from the bus, which were intended as palliatives for the NUJ Cross River State Council. Several journalists present sustained heavy bruises during the attack.

Comrade Archibong Bassey, Chairman of the NUJ in Cross River, condemned the violence and called for justice.
