Benitez has been out of work since he was sacked by Everton in January 2022.

The Spaniard was linked with a move to the Middle East and almost took the Leicester City job before they opted for Enzo Maresca.

He has now agreed a three-year contract in principle with Celta to replace Carlos Carvalhal at the helm.

Benitez began his career with the Real Madrid youth set-up but made his name with Valencia.

The 63-year-old won two LaLiga titles before a hugely successful move to Liverpool, where he won a host of trophies during his stint at Anfield, including the Champions League and FA Cup.

Since then, Benitez has had spells with Inter Milan, Chelsea, Napoli, Real Madrid, and Newcastle.
