According to a report by Daily Trust, Onanuga emphasized that the new Airbus A330 was acquired at a price significantly lower than its market value, leading to substantial savings for Nigeria in terms of maintenance and fuel costs. He explained that the decision to replace the aging Boeing aircraft stemmed from concerns raised during a parliamentary investigative hearing.

This hearing highlighted issues regarding the old plane’s safety record and cost efficiency, particularly after it malfunctioned during a trip to Saudi Arabia. In response to these findings, the Nigerian Senate’s security and intelligence committee recommended the purchase of a new aircraft to minimize downtime and operational expenses.

Onanuga noted that the newly acquired Airbus A330 is equipped with advanced avionics, a customized interior, and a state-of-the-art communications system, making it a significant upgrade over its predecessor.

He further stated on X, formerly known as Twitter, that the new plane “saves Nigeria huge maintenance and fuel costs, running into millions of dollars yearly.” He reiterated that the recommendation to replace the B737-700 (BBJ) was based on concerns raised by the parliamentary investigation, which questioned the plane’s safety and cost efficiency following its mechanical issues.

The purchase of the new plane has sparked mixed reactions among the public. While some acknowledge the financial prudence in replacing the older, less efficient aircraft, others have criticized the timing of the purchase, given Nigeria’s current economic challenges.

Many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their views, reflecting the ongoing debate over the decision to invest in such an upgrade amid broader economic concerns…..For More READ THE FULL ARTICLE HERE ▶▶
