RMAFC Chairman Mohammed Bello Shehu addressed recent claims by former Senator Shehu Sani, who alleged that senators receive an additional ₦13.5 million in running costs and ₦750,000 as prescribed by the Commission. Shehu clarified that RMAFC does not have the power to enforce compliance with these remuneration packages, though efforts to address this issue are underway in the National Assembly.

The breakdown includes regular allowances such as utilities and wardrobe expenses, while non-regular allowances like furniture and severance gratuities are paid periodically. Additionally, vehicle allowance is provided as a loan, which must be repaid before leaving office.

The RMAFC chief noted that aside from top officials like the president and vice president, public and legislative officers no longer receive housing benefits.

Recently, the Senate responded to former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s comments suggesting that lawmakers set their own salaries. Senate spokesman Yemi Adaramodu rejected these claims, asserting that the National Assembly only receives salaries allocated by the RMAFC as per constitutional provisions.
