According to Vanguard, the case centered on a land dispute involving the Eletu family, where Babalola’s law firm represented the appellants.
The Supreme Court had ruled in favor of the Eletu family, reaffirming their land title after challenges from the Ojomu family and a dispute over land acquisition by the Lagos State Government.
However, Farotimi allegedly accused Babalola of corruption in procuring a fraudulent judgment in favor of his clients.
In his book, Farotimi alleged that Babalola and his lawyers compromised the integrity of the Supreme Court, manipulated judgments, and engaged in fraudulent activities to serve the interests of the Eletu family.
Babalola’s petition cites multiple defamatory remarks in the book, including accusations of judicial corruption and manipulation, and claims of Babalola’s control over Supreme Court decisions.
Farotimi also reportedly accused Babalola of collusion with corrupt judicial officers and misrepresenting facts in legal proceedings.
Additionally, Farotimi claimed that Babalola’s law firm had unlawfully excluded other counsel from settlements to deny them their professional fees.
The petition highlights the significant damage caused to Babalola’s reputation and legal practice by these statements.
It demands that the police investigate Farotimi’s actions under criminal defamation laws, emphasizing the impact on Babalola’s professional standing and the integrity of the judiciary.
