The Libyan Football Federation has broken its silence on the controversy surrounding the Nigerian national team’s 16-hour airport ordeal in Benghazi, according to OwnGoalNigeria. The Libyan Federation rejected allegations of intentional sabotage, emphasizing that such incidents are common in international air travel. They expressed “deep concern” over reports and regretted any inconvenience caused.

Interestingly, the federation referenced their own national team’s challenges upon arriving in Nigeria for a previous match, highlighting that they did not make public accusations or question the Nigerian authorities’ integrity.

The statement took a bold turn when a board member called on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to sanction Nigeria if they boycott the match, citing rulebook provisions.

Libya’s response has sparked mixed reactions. While some argue that the explanation is plausible, others believe it’s a convenient excuse.

The Nigerian Football Federation has yet to respond officially. However, Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface had earlier expressed frustration, tweeting, “This is getting scary now. You guys can have the point. We just want to return to our country.”
