Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Expressing concern over the recurring incidents of alleged palliative diversion, the State Chairman of the APC, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, highlighted the role of some officials in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP)-led government. He stated that these actions could be interpreted as “tacit support for these nefarious and unpatriotic acts” if no action is taken against the perpetrators.
Alhaji Abbas cited alleged misconduct involving hundreds of bags of rice labeled “Federal Government Food Security Programme” found at a private school owned by Shehu Sagagi, the Chief of Staff. He also reported the arrest of Tasiu Al’amin-Roba, who was accused of diverting state palliatives while working for the Secretary to the State Government.
Abbas criticized the state government for rebranding palliatives with the Governor’s picture and NNPP logo and selling them to party members. He also condemned the government for taking credit for Federal Government interventions in agriculture.
Abbas described these actions as a “deliberate attempt to undermine the efforts of the President Bola Tinubu’s administration in supporting the people.”
In response to these allegations, Shehu Sagagi, the Chief of Staff, denied any involvement in diverting the Federal Government’s branded rice. He stated, “The rice found in my Islamic school was either purchased with my funds or donated by generous individuals.”
Sagagi emphasized his long-standing commitment to feeding children in his Islamic school, a practice he began before assuming his current role. He asserted, “I have never diverted any palliatives meant for the people of the state for my personal use.”
Sagagi added, “My actions are driven by a sense of social responsibility and a desire to support the community. I assure the public that my integrity and commitment to serving the people of Kano State remain unwavering.”
He also expressed his willingness to “cooperate fully with any investigation to clear my name and demonstrate my dedication to transparency and accountability.”
The APC’s demand for a thorough investigation underscores the party’s commitment to ensuring that the Federal Government’s palliative measures reach the intended beneficiaries and are not misappropriated for personal or political gain.
