Widespread outrage has erupted in Kaduna State after reports emerged that a 10-year-old boy, Ibrahim Musa, was severely injured by his stepfather during a violent outburst. According to eyewitnesses and local human rights groups, the child suffered multiple head and back injuries after being repeatedly struck with an iron rod over what the stepfather claimed was “disobedience.” The incident, which took place in the Sabon Tasha area of Kaduna South, has drawn condemnation from child rights activists and concerned citizens across the country.

Ibrahim is currently receiving treatment at Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, where doctors say he remains in critical condition. Medical reports indicate internal bleeding and a fractured skull, prompting fears that he may suffer long-term neurological damage. The Kaduna-based NGO, Children First Initiative, has since intervened, helping the family with medical costs and pressing charges against the alleged abuser. The group emphasized the urgent need for trauma support and legal protection for vulnerable children in domestic settings.

In response to public pressure, the Kaduna State Ministry of Human Services and Social Development has launched an official investigation. The Commissioner has vowed to work with law enforcement to ensure that justice is served and to strengthen the Child Welfare and Protection Law. As the case garners national attention, activists are calling on federal authorities to implement stricter penalties for child abuse and expand child safety education in communities.
