His wife, Mrs Vera Shagari, recounted what led to the event, mentioning a man named Sunday Pad. She said that Sunday had threatened to kill her husband and gave him until Monday to end his life.

Chief Shagari, concerned about the threat, decided to take Sunday to the police to settle the issue. Both men wrote official statements, and Sunday was briefly locked up. However, by Sunday evening, he was released after people pleaded for his freedom.

The following Monday morning, around 9:00 AM, Chief Shagari went to collect some money from a POS (Point of Sale) machine. Shortly after, gunshots rang out, and within 10 to 20 minutes, the terrible news spread: Chief Job Shagari had been killed.

The next day, police and soldiers arrived in the community, but things only worsened as unknown people started burning houses. Since then, the community has been living in fear, with no peace.
