The Adamawa State Police Command has said that Abba Suleiman, the suspect who was nabbed last week with a stolen tricycle, did more than just steal the vehicle.

The command, which had last Thursday, July 20, merely disclosed the arrest of Abba and the suspicion that the tricycle with which he was picked up was stolen, said in a fresh statement on Monday that Abba collaborated with two other persons now at large to kill the owner of the tricycle before taking the tricycle away.

DAILY POST had reported the initial story of how Abba was arrested while he was riding the said tricycle from a location in Gombi, Gombi LGA, where it was suspected of being stolen, to a prearranged receiver at the state capital, Yola.

In its fresh statement on Monday, the Adamawa State Police Command said its investigation since the man’s arrest has shown that the suspect, working with two other people yet to be arrested, made one Saifullahi Rufai, a commercial tricyclist, take them to a remote part of Gombi town, headquarters of the Gombi Local Government Area, where they hit the tricyclist repeatedly with a heavy stick until he died.

They then rode in the tricycle away from the bloody scene, after which Abba collected it and embarked on his journey to Yola—a journey that was interrupted by police operatives who picked him up.

According to the latest statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer Suleiman Nguroje, the state commissioner of police has directed the deputy commissioner in charge of the criminal department to take over the investigation.

The statement stressed that the deputy commissioner had been specifically tasked with arresting the two fleeing suspects and making them face the law.
