The gunmen also abducted the monarch’s wife, son and four other people in the town before leaving for two neighbouring villages where they kidnapped four villagers, including a nursing mother.

A source explained that the suspected kidnappers stormed the town, a few kilometres away from Sunkani headquarters of Ardo- Kola Local Government Area of the state on Monday night by 11:30pm.

The late traditional ruler is said to be backing youths in the area in protecting the community against intruders, especially, kidnappers.

Residents say this may be the motive behind his killing.

According to the source, hunters led by the state chairman of the Hunters Association, Dantala Adamu, are searching surrounding forests and mountains for the abducted persons.

Dalhatu Kawu, the Chairman of Ardo-Kola local government area confirmed the incident, saying that he has reported the matter to the Taraba State government.

The Chairman said, “Our local government area is under the siege of bandits and they are kidnapping our people day and night and right now, special police force and hunters are doing their best to arrest the situation.”

SP Usman Abdullahi, the spokesman of the Taraba State Police Command, also confirmed the incident.
