Suspected ritualist kills two casual workers in Bauchi

Operatives of the Bauchi Police Command have arrested one Ibrahim Umar ‘m’, 40, over the gruesome killing of two casual workers in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The suspect, who hails from Dankunkuru village Ungogo LGA of Kano State, is believed to have perfected the abduction and killing of the duo, Kabiru Idi ‘m’ 36, and Bato Ali, 18, for suspected ritual purposes during one of his business trips to Taranka village in Gamawa Local Government Area.

The incident was said to have occurred last month.

However, the police got wind of the abduction on September 10, 2023, when one Adamu Mohammed, 57, of the same Taranka village Gamawa LGA, Bauchi State, reported at the Gamawa Divisional Police Headquarters, that Idris and Ali were still missing.

A statement by the Spokesman of the Command, Mohammed Wakil, issued on Tuesday night, revealed that an investigation uncovered that the accused killed the two persons in a bid to make ritual money out of their dead bodies.

It stated further that on receipt of the report, the police drafted a team of detectives who were quickly drafted to the scene, and eventually arrested the suspect.

The statement added that during a search at the suspect’s residence, one rubber gallon containing liquid substances suspected to be Human blood was recovered from the accused residence.

He said, “During interrogation, the suspect confessed to having killed and buried the two casual workers in a shallow grave around the outskirts of the town, consequently, the requisite coroner’s form was filled and the bodies were exhumed from the said grave for discreet Investigation.”

“These bodies were established to be those of the missing persons and are certified death by the medical practitioner.”

Meanwhile, the command has handed over the corpses to the relatives for burial according to their respective religious rites, while Investigation is still in progress to uncover the mystery behind the act.

The statement quoted the Commissioner of Police, Command CP Auwal Musa Muhammad to have condemned the barbaric act

He described the act “as ferocious and inimical to the law governing our dear country and warned Bauchi State indigenes that such acts under his stewardship will not be tolerated.”
