The NDLEA team had arrived in the border community, which adjoins Rivers State, with the aim of apprehending individuals involved in drug trafficking. However, they were met with hostility from local youths.

Mr. Daniel Obah, spokesperson for the NDLEA’s state command, confirmed the incident in Yenagoa on Thursday.

He reported that four officials sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalized for treatment. Additionally, three other operatives suffered minor injuries and have since been discharged.

The NDLEA vehicles involved in the operation were also damaged during the confrontation.

The Youth President of Oruma, Inebika-emi, stated that the community was taken aback by the raid, as they had not been notified beforehand. He mentioned that four local youths were injured and detained, and their families were not permitted to visit them during their treatment in Yenagoa.

Inebika-emi emphasized that Oruma has a history of opposing drug abuse and has strict local regulations against it.

He condemned the raid as unprofessional and called for intervention from both the NDLEA’s state commander and the Bayelsa State government.
