He noted that General Olusegun Obasanjo inserted his own proposals into the 1999 Constitution without seeking public input through a referendum or national conference.

Oyewole questioned the legitimacy of the preamble’s phrase “We the people of Nigeria” given the absence of public involvement in its creation.

He advocated for a more inclusive and democratic approach, allowing Nigerians to contribute to and endorse their Constitution, to ensure it truly reflects the nation’s collective will.

Oladipo Oyewole stated, “General Olusegun Obasanjo, in 1999, imposed his own ideas on all Nigerians without consulting the people through a referendum or national conference. Yet, the preamble reads ‘We the people of Nigeria’. How long will we remain in denial?
