He expressed doubts about Tinubu’s ability to win another election if the current policies remain in place.
Speaking on the Sunday edition of Inside Sources with Laolu Akande, a socio-political program on Channels Television, Gabam compared the growing protests against the Tinubu government to those seen during former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration in 2012.
“Protests against Jonathan started two years (into his administration), and he couldn’t survive it. And there will be no president in history who has spent money to be reelected in the history of Nigeria like President Jonathan. People are mistaken if they believe money will guarantee success. You can only rig an election if you already have popularity,” he said.
The SDP chairman criticized the Tinubu government for its “hostility” towards opposition voices, suggesting that the administration should push for a constitutional amendment to turn Nigeria into a one-party state.
He stated, “No one can speak to a governor without being insulted; he acts like an emperor, and you cannot challenge or advise him. This behavior is similar with the current government—if you offer advice, they see you as an enemy.”
He also reminded that certain political parties supported the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the election results announcement, as they wanted to avoid chaos.
