The policy is designed to tackle issues like inadequate equipment, worsening insecurity, poor working conditions, and low salaries, which have driven many healthcare workers abroad.

Central to the policy is the Nigeria Human Health Resource Programme, which will regularly review working conditions and ensure fair recognition and rewards for healthcare workers, especially in rural areas.

The policy also emphasizes integrating advanced health technologies, such as Electronic Medical Records and telehealth, to enhance the efficiency and distribution of healthcare services.

Capacity building through international training and continuous professional development is a key component.

Furthermore, the policy includes measures to encourage the return and reintegration of Nigerian health professionals from the Diaspora by offering attractive incentives and streamlined registration processes.

It also promotes reciprocal agreements with other nations to protect Nigeria’s interests while respecting healthcare professionals’ rights.

Provisions for work-life balance, including routine health checks and mental well-being support, aim to reduce burnout and improve job satisfaction.

The National Human Resources for Health Programme will oversee the policy’s implementation in collaboration with state governments to ensure alignment with broader health objectives.

This policy is expected to significantly transform Nigeria’s healthcare system, improving access to quality care and securing the future of the sector.
