Tinubu officially inaugurates the Southern Traditional Rulers Council

President Bola Tinubu inaugurated the Southern Nigeria Traditional Rulers Council in Owerri, Imo State, on Tuesday.

The ceremony saw the Oni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, appointed as chairman, with Obi of Obinugwu Cletus Illomuanya and King Jaja of Opopo Dandeson Jaja serving as co-chairmen. Benjamin Ikenchuku Keagborekuzi 1, the Dein of Agbor, was named secretary.

Representing the president, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, emphasized Tinubu’s support for traditional rulers as key cultural custodians who can help advance Nigeria.

Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma encouraged council members to collaborate with their Northern counterparts for national unity and called for support for Tinubu’s administration, highlighting efforts to foster economic growth and improve governance.

Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, noted that the council’s establishment marks a historic step toward unifying Southern Nigeria and enhancing traditional leaders’ advisory roles in national development.

The Oni of Ife, Ogunwusi, praised Governor Uzodimma for his commitment to uniting the Southern protectorate, recognizing the achievement of his vision.
