Man United placed a bid of around £34.4million, with bonuses that could have taken the deal to around £38.5million.

However, this is below Inter Milan’s asking price of £44million and the Serie A giants rejected the offer, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Onana is Man United manager Erik ten Hag’s first choice to replace David De Gea, who became a free agent after his contract expired last weekend.

Nevertheless, Man United remain in talks with De Gea over a new deal, but it remains unlikely that the Spaniard will agree on new terms.
