Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Yakubu, as winner of the election with 39,998 votes against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Magaji Da’u, who scored 36,735.
Da’u, however, challenged the outcome of the election at the National Assembly election tribunal.
The three-man panel, under the chairmanship of Justice A. A. Okeke, declared the election as inconclusive because the margin of cancelled votes outnumbered the winning votes.
DAILY POST learned that the number of PVCs collected at the eight polling units was 6,351 and the margin between the winner and the APC candidate was 926 votes.
Delivering the judgement, the tribunal chairman, said there is clear evidence that INEC did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022 in conducting the election and declaring the result.
The tribunal, therefore, declared the election of Birnin Kudu/Buji federal constituency inconclusive and ordered the INEC to conduct a re-run election on eight polling units within 90 days.
