Labeling the effort the “largest mass deportation campaign in U.S. history,” the president’s directive instructs federal agents to arrest and process up to 3,000 undocumented immigrants per day—nearly five times the current daily average. The announcement comes amid growing civil unrest and nationwide “No Kings Day” protests against Trump’s immigration and public safety policies.

Trump defended the move as a matter of national security and law enforcement, calling sanctuary cities “havens for criminal aliens.” In contrast, local officials and civil rights advocates argue the policy is politically motivated and dangerous.
