Two car thieves arrested in Ebonyi as police burst syndicate

Police in Ebonyi State on Wednesday arrested two suspected criminals for allegedly stealing vehicles in the state.

The suspects are Francis Oti from Afikpo local government area and Philip Pele from Isokoro, in Delta State.

The Commissioner of Police, CP, Ogbodo Augustina who spoke to newsmen through the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya said the suspects allegedly stole two vehicles with plate numbers Ebonyi AKL 172 RN and Abuja GWA 753 DC.

DAILY POST reports that the suspects attempted to steal another car on Sunday but did not succeed, leaving one of their phones inside the car which aided their arrest by the police

Parading the suspects, Onome said the car-stealing syndicate were arrested when one of them placed a call on the phone which he unknowingly left in the vehicle.

She said, “The Hilux was recovered from one of the ESN camps, it was abandoned in Agba community in Ishielu local government. So far, we have recovered 3 vehicles.

CP. Ogbodo however, warned the criminal elements to either desist from their crime or leave the state as she was ready to make the state uncomfortable for them.

One of the suspects, Francis Oti, during interrogation, blamed the stealing on the hardship in the country, saying, “We were caught stealing people’s cars. We stole this Corolla and the Matrix. Hunger drove me into stealing people’s vehicles” he stated.
