A source who disclosed this to DAILY POST said three vehicles used by the kidnappers were recovered by the AVG, including one AK-47 rifle and a pistol.

The source stated that the rescue operation took place in two operations in different locations in Onitsha and happened between 8:30 and 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Corroborating a viral video of the rescue of the victims, which had flooded social media, an Onitsha resident, Mr Theo Eze, said: “Yes, the videos are true. The men were intercepted by AVG operatives, and their victims rescued, while one of them was killed.

“Because of the nature of crime in the commercial city, some prominent indigenes have made financial contributions to reenergize the security system in Onitsha, to avoid the over-reliance on police.

“What you see in that video is the fruit of such strengthening of the AVG.”

In the viral videos, the victims said they hailed from different places, including Abba and Neni communities in Anambra, while one of the victims said he was from Urualla in Imo State.

The state police command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for confirmation at the time of filing this report.
