Wike made the statement during a press briefing following a security council meeting in the federal capital.

While the minister did not name the Senator, he claimed that the lawmaker supplied food to the protesters, describing this as a form of sponsorship.

“That is sponsorship. A senator providing food for protesters. At the appropriate time, security agencies will invite the senator and find out how you will be sponsoring this kind of thing against the government of the day,” said Wike.

The minister warned the protesters who commenced 10-day demonstrations against hunger to adhere to court orders by remaining within the designated protest area at MKO Abiola Stadium.

He added that security agencies had received intelligence about potential attempts to disrupt the peaceful protest, which is why demonstrators need to gather in one location.

Wike said while he supports the right to protest, it must be conducted legally and peacefully.

He commended the protesters for their non-violent approach and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to engaging in dialogue.
