According to NEWS REPORTS, the incident was seen by residents as a real-life manifestation of the popular saying, “nine days for the thief but one day for the owner.” Akpabio was said to have fallen into the hands of irate youths in the area.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that he was dragged out naked from the home of one Esther Effiong, a woman said to be seven months pregnant and married to a well-known businessman popularly called Mogul. It was reported that Akpabio had sneaked into the house for what was described as a prolonged sexual encounter shortly after Esther’s husband had left for work that morning.

Akpabio, a native of Ididep in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, was alleged to be engaged in a secret romantic affair with Esther.
