Yobe Government Imposes Curfew In Potiskum, Gashua, Nguru LGs Over Violent Protest

The Yobe State Government has imposed a curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru local government areas of the state.

This was as a result of the violent dimension protests against bad governance took on Thursday.

THE WHISTLER reports that aggrieved Nigerians began protests nationwide on Thursday to register their displeasure against bad governance and called for reduction in petrol prices, and other commodities that have made lives difficult in the country.

The protest started peacefully but assumed a frightening dimension when hoodlums took advantage of the mass procession and began to vandalise and loot government and private property in some cities like Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru.

A press statement signed by Special Adviser to Governor Mai Buni, on security matters, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdussallam (retd.), announcing the curfew partly read, “the state government has imposed a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru.

”The public is hereby advised to abide by the curfew order and stay at home for peace to reign in these areas and the state at large.”

Abdulsallam added, “Security agencies have been directed to ensure enforcement and full compliance of the curfew order.”

Yobe is one the states in the North East that has been under severe terrorist attacks.

It’s one of the poorest and poorly governed states with 90 per cent of the people living below the poverty line according to reports.
