Additionally, the nation’s constitution mandates a rotational presidency among the three main islands—Grande Comore, Anjouan, and Moheli—every decade, which would make Nour El Fath ineligible to assume office in 2029 unless constitutional amendments are made.

Assoumani’s recent election in 2022 faced widespread rejection by opposition parties over alleged irregularities.
