Addressing a press conference on Tuesday with other relevant stakeholders, the CP urged motorists to use the available window to obtain their valid third-party insurance saying that any driver who fails to present the document from February 1 will have his vehicle impounded and only recovered upon presentation of valid documents within a given time frame.

Azare, who explained that the exercise was designed to protect road users, ensure accountability, and promote compliance with traffic laws said the Akwa Ibom Police Command was ready to enforce the IGP’s directives to the letter, noting that his men would go to all the local government areas to ensure compliance.

He added, “We want to call on members of the public to cooperate with the directives to avoid every embarrassment. We will go to all the local governments in the state to ensure compliance.

“Third party vehicle insurance is not something new, it’s actually supposed to be part of your vehicle particulars.

It is something that we ought to have. We are just trying to reawaken vehicle owners that they should have it.

The CP also cautioned against fake insurance documents, noting that vehicle owners found in possession of such materials would be required to identify the issuing source.

In his remarks, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Corps in the state, Edward Odiete, called on road users to update their insurance and other vehicle particulars, describing them as key documents to avoid embarrassment during enforcement.

The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service, Mr Okon Okon commended the Police Command for its proactive leadership, stating that third-party insurance is a basic requirement for all vehicles.

He appealed to vehicle owners to update their insurance documents promptly.

The chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Akwa Ibom, Mr Sunny James commended the police for convening a strategic meeting to discuss the enforcement of third party insurance, appealing to members of the public to renew their vehicle particulars before the expiration of the grace period.

Contributing, David Okon, Deputy State Chairman Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, who commended the initiative to enforce the implementation of the third party insurance, however asked for extension of time to ensure a successful exercise in the state.READ FULL STORY HERE>>>CLICK HERE TO CONTINUE READING>>>
